Teemu Ruokolainen: Conditional Random Fields
In a Computational Cognitive Systems group meeting, Teemu Ruokolainen gave a presentation on how Conditional Random Fields (CRFs) can be used to conduct labeling of sequential data and, more specifically, part-of-speech tagging. A CRF is a a discriminative undirected probabilistic graphical model for encoding relationships between observations and construct consistent interpretations. The presentation raised discussions on the relationship between CRFs, Hidden Markov Models and Weighted Finite State Machines. Ruokolainen conducts his research with the support from Langnet, Finnish Graduate School in Language Studies.
